Name: Sheila Washington, 1Hood Board Chair and monthly donor

Sheila is the founder and principal of Washington Consulting Group (WCG), a consulting firm that specializes in organizational development and effectiveness. In 2020, she helped 1Hood develop our first strategic plan and since then has become one of our strongest partners and mission champions as we build liberated communities through arts, education, and social justice.


Tell us about your personal and/or professional background

“I am a self-employed organization development consultant. I have worked for a large corporation, a Pittsburgh-based Black-owned consulting firm, and a Pittsburgh-based non-profit.”


How'd you first learn about 1Hood?

“I learned about 1Hood through a capacity-building program offered by PACE (Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise).”


What inspired you to support our work with a donation?

I am in awe of the impactful work that 1 Hood does. I worked with them to develop the organization’s first strategic plan. They live their organizational values and support the community through innovative programs and services.”


What would you like others to know about 1Hood?  

1Hood is having a powerful impact on the Pittsburgh community in the areas of arts, education, and social justice.”


I believe the most important and powerful impact that 1Hood has is working with young artivist and voter engagement”

In your opinion, what is the most important work that 1Hood does?


What does “Our Community, Our Support” mean to you?

As a Black woman and 1Hood Board member, ‘Our Community, Our Support’ means that ‘We the People’ must exert our power and lift up the organizations that reflect our values and get results.”
